“Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.” (Confucius, The Book of Rites)
Unable to meet since the Covid-19 lockdown of March, 2020, we have all missed the opportunity to make music together. For our summer session 2020, we created a virtual performance, both to provide an opportunity to play together, and to create a record of this extraordinary time.
We chose Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite, composed in 1926 originally for piano duet, but later scored for string and full orchestra. Based on Renaissance dance tunes, this has been a popular piece at Music Workshop with a number of performances.
In true music workshop style, we arranged the music to ensure everyone had something to play and, in this spirit, we’ve included Movement Six, Mattachins, here on the website.
Many thanks to our trusty band of regular players for their enthusiasm to participate and willingness to try something new:
- Strings: Mike, Tim, Roger, Caroline, Sue, Farrah, Lynn, Lynda, Thea, Anne, Caroline, Carrie, Lin, Sarah, Frankie, Charlie, Stuart, Anthea, Tim
- Wind: Caroline, Charlie, Caroline, Cathy, Josie, Diana, Lesley, Jim, Phil, Judy, Keith, David, David, Greg, Naomi
- Percussion created by: Katherine
Thanks to the workshop organisers for their support and encouragement, to Sue and Josie for arranging the parts and to Lynda for organising.
And thanks to Wilfred and Patch di Salis for working their technical magic to bring this together.
Enjoy!
